Oneida County, created in 1886 from Lincoln County, is named for the Oneida Indian nation. Located in northeast Wisconsin, the county seat is Rhinelander. Oneida County covers approximately 1,124 square miles and is 1,554 feet at Rhinelander and 1,735 feet at Squirrel Hill. There are approximately 1,129 lakes covering 68,447 acres or 106.95 square miles. Just some of the many rivers are Little Rice, Little Somo, Pelican, Somo, Tomahawk, Willow, Wisconsin and the Wolf River.

Oneida County has beautiful white and red pines, jack pine, prairie grasses, maple, hemlock, yellow birch, and conifer swamp.
